Sansuien Management Philosophy 2025

Sansuien takes pride in its exceptional location, exquisite cuisine, natural hot springs, and the history and traditions of the Yamauchi family. We are committed to pursuing the material and spiritual well-being of every member of our team—including our business partners. By bringing happiness to everyone we interact with, we aim to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere and become a highly sought-after ryokan where guests can’t wait to return, even if reservations are hard to come by.

"Somehow, Sansuien is just a great place, isn't it!"

We want to create a warm and welcoming space where our customers feel like saying, “I’d love to come back” or “I want to tell someone about this.” For our employees, we want to build a company where they check in with each other when someone is struggling—asking, “Are you okay?”—and celebrate successes together by saying, “That’s great!”—a place they’ll be proud to tell others, “Our workplace is really great.”

This is the kind of company Sansuien aims to be

Gold Standard

  • 1

    A humble attitude

It’s important to have confidence. But humility is just as important. Humble people don’t let their success go to their heads; they never forget to be grateful to those around them, and they learn openly from their failures. Let’s not just be modest—let’s fulfill our roles to the best of our ability, respect those around us, and strive to be a positive influence.

  • 2

    Practicing Smiles and Greetings

First impressions are formed in just three seconds. It really is a matter of a split second. The most effective way to make a good impression is with a smile and a greeting. No matter how excellent your service is, if you come across as unfriendly at first, it becomes very difficult to build a relationship afterward. If each of us makes a conscious effort, the workplace atmosphere will become brighter and more pleasant. Let’s start each day by valuing smiles and greetings.

  • 3

    Reporting, Communication, and Consultation

Communication is the foundation of trust and teamwork. It’s just as important for managers to communicate with their subordinates as it is for subordinates to communicate with their managers. This includes prioritizing tasks (communication) and sharing expectations and approaches (reporting).
Let’s build a company where employees feel comfortable discussing anything—even matters unrelated to work.

  • 4

    "Acceptable failures" and "unacceptable failures"

It’s okay to fail when you’re trying something new. What’s not okay is failing because you didn’t do what you were supposed to do. Stumbling while trying to be creative and improve is an opportunity for growth. If you share these experiences with your teammates and apply what you’ve learned to the next challenge, that’s proof of your growth.

  • 5

Complaints are words that hold us back. Suggestions are words that move us forward.

Before saying, “This isn’t working,” try offering a positive suggestion like, “Maybe if we tried it this way, it would be better.” Ideas for improvement can change the workplace atmosphere more effectively than complaints. Positive words!
Positive actions! That’s the first step toward building a strong team!

  • 6

It’s nothing special, but “doing it right” isn’t easy

What does “doing it properly” mean? It means taking responsibility for the task you’ve been asked to do and seeing it through to the end.
Even when no one is watching, don’t cut corners; work carefully while imagining how pleased the other person will be.

  • 7

    I keep my promises

Keeping your promises is a sign of trustworthiness. Whether it’s time, rules, or your word—people who carefully honor even small promises naturally earn the trust of those around them. Trust is built not through words, but through actions.
A commitment to keeping promises builds a person’s credibility.

  • 8

    Treat everyone equally

It’s impressive to treat everyone with the same level of respect and sincerity. If your attitude changes depending on who you’re dealing with, you’ll inevitably lose the trust of those around you. Be sincere and fair to everyone. “Could you say those words or act that way even if your parents or loved ones were right there?”

  • 9

    Well-being

This refers to a state in which employees can go about their daily lives with peace of mind and maintain their mental well-being. An organization where people can work happily is one characterized by “high productivity and creativity,” “low turnover,” and “a strong spirit of challenge.” Let’s make Sansuien a company we can be proud to tell our families about—a company where people want to work.

  • 10

"Trial and error" as a way to move forward

Rather than striving for perfection, it’s important to just give it a try. When it comes to improving work processes, the key to success is finding ways to boost efficiency by actually testing ideas on the job. Don’t try to make drastic changes right away; the first step is to take action within the limits of what you can do right now.
