The Origin of the Yudono Suizai-kaku
This calligraphy was created in 1907 (Meiji 40), when Emperor Taisho, then Crown Prince, stayed at this location. Impressed by the beauty of the Kagami River, he praised its waters with the words “How fine the water is!” and bestowed the name “Suigakaku” upon the inn. He then ordered Admiral Heihachiro Togo, a member of his retinue, to write the characters in ink. As we built a new hot spring facility on the site of the former residence, we named it “Yudono Suizai-kaku” to ensure that this history is preserved for future generations.
